The sheer size of the eight-storeyed Bridgewater House contributes to the overall canyon-like effect experienced along this stretch of Whitworth Street. Despite this, the building's bulk is actually broken up in a variety of ways. Firstly the building takes a tripartite form, that is, it is clearly divided into three sections, with a granite base, white faience cladding on the upper storeys and a tall, slanted roofline. Secondly, a rhythmic pattern of bays creates an interesting series of undulations and finally through neo-classical motifs and reliefs which adorn the entire building,
